Draco entered the chamber cautiously, "Anya," he called coming near her, "is everything alright?"
Anya simply smiled at him with a knowing gleam in her eyes, "see for yourself."
she lifted her wing to reveal a small, shiny new hatchling curled among a mess of broken eggshells. Draco's jaw dropped open as he stared in awe at the little wonder. it was a dark green that almost looked black, and held an amazing resemblance to himself.
"Draco," Anya said, "meet your first child, Nefra."
"Nefra," Draco whispered the name as if trying it out, "it's a strong name."
Anya beamed at him, "a fitting name for the daughter of a strong dragon." she lowered her head to the small creature and nudged it gently with the very tip of her snout, "Nefra, wake up, dear."
the little hatchling uncurled from her tight ball and looked up at her mother with bright yellow eyes. "this is Draco, your father." her mother said. and the hatchling turned to meet him.
Draco lowered his great head down to her, his voice a soft purr as he whispered, "hello there, little one."
Nefra looked to her mother for a second as if to ask for reassurance. a quick nod from Anya and the hatchling stumbled over to Draco and sniffed at his face quizzically. Draco took the opportunity to nudge her kindly then flicked his tongue at her playfully to better assure her that he was harmless despite his great size. Nefra let out a sound like a high pitched squeal and pounced on his nose happily.
Draco just grinned with joy at the first addition to his family.
sketch I did with my mom while she colored fairies in the kitchen. it was a fun and quiet afternoon.
