Winged Warrior by Wazaga Winged Warrior by Wazaga
while I'm flattered and happy to receive the challenge. I still wonder just where it says in my gallery that I'm capable or am of those who enjoy drawing complex metal body protection of the fantasy-meets-midevil-times design...

seriously... armor is nice and all... and I like making arm-guards and the occasional shinguard in my costume designs... but full out body armor complete with chain-mail???

not my fort, comfort zone or interest... and then there are the wings... the dreaded feathery kind to boot. again, not my comfort zone in the drawing department.

overall. this was a fun challenge, and I am pleased with the end result. hope you like it ~Valchryst

INDEED! Thus why I love it so much, as well. I miss the feathered boy scout and the pirate with a heart of gold.

I know. I still want to write a story and post it here, I think I still have some of our old RPs I might make one out of. It's a project I'd love to do.

You may have felt out of your comfort zone when doing this, but it's awesome. The detail and care with which you did the piece is awesome. Man, I could stare at this all day.

wanna know a secret?

....

in real life, the warrior doesn't have the wings... my paper was far too short, and rather then retrace the whole thing, I drew the wings separate and photoshopped it together :)

Wwwwoooowwww! All of this detail is just blowing me away! The way you've drawn those wings---! Fantastic! But the sword has to be my favorite part. In all, though, this is a stellar piece.

I don't recommend using it, this guy is actually a character by the commissioner. I just don't know his name cause I didn't bother asking...

o.o I'd say this challenge was a success! The chainmail is convincing and the wings have just the right amount of featheryness without looking obnoxious. Really great work as usual. :)

heh heh, thanks. I wanted the wings to look sorta less feminine-fluffy, so I made them as strict as possible. the chain-mail was super easy thanks to this tutorial I read ages ago here on dA... somewhere...

This is really cool. I especially like the wings and the sword. I don't think I've said this before but I want to say it now. You are really good at action poses. I'm very jealous of your skill with poses. :P

bah, nonsense and applesauce. I still have yet a looooooong way to go. I might be getting slightly better with each pose I try, but I still feel they are more stiff then other artist's can get them. but thank you very much for the complement. I truly appreciate it.

The way I started learning how to draw feathery wings that don't suck when I was a preteen: the eagle on the back of the quarter. [link] =P Once you can imitate that pretty well, then all you really have to do is work on more accurate anatomy and wrapping your head around how thick bird wings really are, then you can make realistic wing-poses. OR, you can take that knowledge and warp it into a cartoon style that makes more sense than the usual anime wings but still fits your own style. Win-win all around. :D

ha ha, that was actually clever. I do have the basics pretty well. and I have a nice bird book to reference from if I really wanted, but I just don't care much for angel looking characters. I like tails more than wings anyway. but thanks for the input
