ever go window shopping and saw something you really, really, REEEEAAALLY wanted, but you knew you had to leave it in the window cause it was impractical to buy it?
yeah, I've been having that feeling for the past, oh, I dunno, few months maybe. one thing about dA that drives me nuts is that seeing just one picture makes me yearn to try that particular art style. I'll even get obsessed over it until I do it.
an excellent example is customized My Little Ponies. before, I was desperate enough to buy cheap, non MLP dolls just to try it out. and then I finally got my mits on several real MLP ponies.
I'm currently working on a Jak and Daxter pony set (for myself) and planning a Link (to give to a friend at work who is a total Zelda fan)
but ponies are not the issue here, no. this time its a different doll. a ball jointed doll to be precise.
doll photography has become a very interesting topic to look up. besides the posing, setting and dressing. the ability to customize a whole doll into whatever character you want, however you want, and then re-designing him when you feel like it. is just an out of the world idea to me.
and if that's not enough, you get several designs to pick from (don't get me started on the limited editions, either. I saw too many "sold out" stamps that I just wanna frown to pieces.)
in the last 2 weeks, I've been contemplating and arguing with myself about ordering one. but given that these dolls are SSSSOOOOOOOOOO bloody expensive, it has to be one that I KNOW I'll never get tired of. and after googling, searching, comparing, and redoing the whole research about 3 times over, I think I finally made my choice:
[link]unfortunately, that's about as far as it'll go. choosing the right doll. nothing farther then that. and not because I can't afford it either. no, money has nothing to do with it. in fact, I just asked my uncle to order me a couple things from Wacom.com to fix my tablet issues. there's nothing stopping me from asking to get the doll, too...
except my own guilt. I've always been careful with money. maybe not as careful as my mom is (thankfully!) but still careful with how I spend it and where. I always get picky about what I decide to buy. be it clothes, tools, books, what have you.
but this... I want it, but I KNOW that I REALLY don't need... but I still want it...
the curse of window shopping. bleh!

Incidentally, are you interested in painting/designing the doll yourself, or just having one? Because you can buy all the pieces separately from the manufacturer, then pain and assemble the doll yourself. Not that it'd be easy, and each of the parts are pretty expensive, but maybe you could pick out the head eyes and hair you want and start learning how to paint on those and wait a few paychecks before buying the body and hands.
